For ferias and romerías · From scratch

Sevillanas classesin Telde

Sevillanas are Spain's social dance: they are danced at ferias, romerías, weddings and parties. In Telde we teach them step by step, in groups that start from scratch, in the evening so they fit around work.

How the four sevillanas are learned

One at a time

Sevillanas are four separate coplas and they are built in order. The level 0 group starts with the first; the next group works the first and second already put together.

Compás rules

Sevillanas run on a three-beat cycle and each copla enters at an exact point. The first thing you learn is to count and come in on time — that is what separates dancing them from simply moving.

Pasadas and turns

They are danced in pairs or in a group, with crossings and careos. We work the arms and the turns so they come out clean and without getting dizzy.

The feria is the point

This is not a stage class. It is so that you arrive at the romería and just go for it. Lively classes and good company.
